The Star Wars Minis is what they call a skirmish game. Basically small scale battles with a simple set of rules. Similar to board games like Risk or Chess in a way.
The RPG is just typically role playing game. Very open and more advanced thus a lot more freedom to be creative, etc.
Note, you can use the miniatures in the RPG game. It helps a lot when the fighting begins.
Hope that helps.

The SWRPG is alot more complicated. You basically create a character and flesh out every detail you want about them. THere are still battles but there is alot of storytelling involved in between battles. Mini game is just battles. Simplified battles that are more fast paced than the rpg. Thing is if you look at battles in the rpg they are pretty much the same as the minis system just more complex. For example each weapon has it's own stats. Along with your characters stats and skills. Just buy the revised core rulebook off ebay. If there is noone in your area that plays the rpg you can play games online.
